College Community

Community is at the heart of Cheltenham College.

From individual House initiatives to whole-College projects, pupils are encouraged to engage with the world around them and to understand the importance of service, responsibility and compassion.

Through charitable giving, partnerships and community action, pupils develop a strong sense of social awareness and an instinctive spirit of philanthropy. These experiences help them to engage with real-world issues locally, nationally and internationally, while building skills and confidence that support Higher Education and future careers.

Our community work is shaped around three key strands: Charity, Partnership Projects and Community Action.

Further information about our charitable work, partnerships and community action can be found in our Impact & Reach publication, available to read here.

Charity

Charitable giving is an important part of life at College – each year, every House, the Prefect body, and the whole school work together to support a charity.

Our pupils generate their own ideas to support their chosen charities and to deliver projects and events themselves. In the past year, pupils have raised funds for good causes through a variety of events, from a whole-school walk to a comedy night.

This year, Cheltenham College has chosen to support Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity dedicated to helping bereaved military children and young people. Inspired by the experience of Army widow Nikki Scott, the charity honours the memory of her husband, Corporal Lee Scott, and gives support to children who have lost a parent in the Armed Forces.

Our pupils have already contributed to this vital cause in several ways. Highlights include our College Tough Mudder, a challenging event organised to raise funds for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, and the Charity Rugby Game at Kingsholm Stadium, where pupils, staff, and the wider community came together to support the charity.

Partnership Projects

Cheltenham College maintains a broad programme of local and international partnerships, designed to share expertise, widen access and foster meaningful collaboration.

Locally, we work closely with St John’s Church of England Primary School and All Saints’ Academy Cheltenham, sharing facilities, supporting Higher Education preparation and exchanging best practice. We also collaborate with a range of other local schools and organisations.

Internationally, our partnerships support education and wellbeing in Kenya, Romania, Nepal and South Africa, helping pupils to develop a global perspective and a deeper understanding of different communities and cultures.

Community Action

We encourage pupils to see themselves as active members of the wider Cheltenham community. Through volunteering and service, pupils develop empathy, responsibility and a strong sense of civic engagement.

Pupils support a wide range of local organisations, including care homes, schools, charity shops and community groups. These opportunities allow them to make a meaningful contribution while building valuable life skills that support future study and employment.
